David Earl Holt was born on May 17, 1928 in Magna, Utah. After growing up in Magna, he attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, earning bachelor's and master's degrees in music, and played trombone in the bands of Tex Beneke, Tony Pastor, Gene Krupa, Victor Lombardo, and Tommy Dorsey. He earned a master's degree in librarianship from Emory University, and served as director of the Alton, Illinois Hayner Public Library from 1963 until 1965 before relocating to work at the Waco Public Lib...
